How to install presets in Audacity 4

Works the same for every preset in the pack. Two minutes, no extra plugins.

    Unzip your download

    Keep the preset files (they end in .ny).

    Install the preset

    In Audacity 4: Tools > Nyquist plugin installer. Choose the preset file, click Apply.

    Switch it on

    Effect > Plugin manager, click Rescan plugins.

    Use it

    Select your recording, open the Effect menu and click the MRC preset.

    Save your audio

    Listen, then File > Export audio.

How do I install the presets in Audacity 4?

Choose Tools > Nyquist plugin installer, click Choose file, pick a .ny preset file and click Apply. Repeat for each preset you bought. Then open Effect > Plugin manager, click Rescan plugins and make sure each preset is enabled. You only do this once.

Where do I find a preset after installing it?

In the Effect menu, listed by its MRC name. For example, Best EQ Male and Best EQ Female sit under Effect > EQ and filters.

The preset is missing from the Effect menu. What now?

Open Effect > Plugin manager, click Rescan plugins, and check the preset is enabled.

What is the difference between Best EQ Male and Female?

Best EQ Male is the original Best EQ sound, with fuller bass and body. Best EQ Female uses the same processing chain with less added bass, for a lighter tone.

Can I stack two presets on the same audio?

No. Apply one preset, once. To compare presets, use separate copies of the same original recording. To try again on the same selection, Undo first.

Does dragging audio onto a track apply the preset?

No. Choose the effect for each new recording from the Effect menu.

Do I need any extra plugins?

No. The presets run on the Nyquist engine built into Audacity, with no extra downloads. They are verified in Audacity 4.0.0 on macOS.

Do these presets work in Audacity 3?

No. This pack is built for Audacity 4 and up. On Audacity 3, use our Audacity 3 presets for podcasters.
